This is by far my favorite dry fly! It’s the Walt’s Worm of dry flies!
I specifically love this fly when making short drifts dry dropping technical pocket water. It has all the buggy attributes needed to coax a fish to rise in those fast passes drifts but it’s minimal material provides incredible strike detection if they take the nymph instead.
Prefered combo: #16 F-Fly paired with a 2.5mm nymph(adjust pattern to match desired sink rate(buggy Walts worm-slender nymph like a BWO/ pheasant tail-perdigon)). Making pattern adjustments will effect sink rate while allowing you to use the smaller dry fly/ light nymph combo. To get extra geeky try making tuck casts with this rig to get the small/ light nymph even deeper!
Tied on barbless Fulling Mill dry fly hooks.
